So this past week was pretty crazy!! Pretty much the entire week last week was spent doing service.
It started out by helping an older lady to move houses. She owned two houses, a nice bigger one and a smaller like renters home. Well the bigger one got foreclosed on :(. So she was moving into the renters house she has. When we got there, we didn't end up helping her move her stuff, instead she had movers come and help her do that. She actually had us work on her garden! So we trimmed bushes, pulled weeds, mulched the garden, and planted trees and bushes. It was pretty fun and we got A LOT done for her :).
After that we went to the Ramon's home and helped them clean out their gutters! There was a lot of crap in them so we put in "gutter guards". They kind of look like a loofa, but it's shaped like a triangle, that way it can fit into the gutters, yet still block leaves and bugs from getting in. It also has this anti-moss fungal stuff in it so it doesn't get clogged with that stuff either. Pretty cool invention!
Then on Saturday, we went and helped out with "Christmas in April"!! For those of you who don't know what that is, Christmas in April is pretty much like "Helping Hands". The people in Christmas in April go and in a sense flip houses for people who's houses are falling apart and need A LOT of work done. So we volunteered to go and help out with that :). We went to a trailer home that day and, Boy! Was there lot to do! They completely replaced the flooring in the trailer and built them a new entry deck on both sides of the house. They painted the inside of the trailer, and cleaned the yard up a bit. There was a lot more going on, but I can't remember all of it!! So our first task, when we got there, was to rake up some nasty leaves that had been there for ever (at least it looked like that!). Once we got all that cleaned up, they said that the owner had a shed that he would like to move up against the trailer home. We looked, and it was this big honkin' shed!! I mean, it wasn't your normal tin shed either. It looked like a miniature house basically! We inspected it to see what we would need to do to get it moved. The inside flooring was completely rotted out and there was nothing but junk on the inside with spiders and rusty nails everywhere. We cleaned all that out and then started thinking of a way to move it. The first thing that came to mind was the Egyptians, and the way that they moved the big stone slabs, by sliding it!
So we found a 4x4 and tried to pry it off the ground to see if it was suction cupped to the ground. Well the 4x4 we had found was half way stuck in the mud and had stared rotting. When we tried to pry the shed up with it, the 4x4 snapped and came straight down on my right quad! I tell you what, I almost cried like a little girl!! Ha! That sucker hurt!! So now I have a huge bruise on the top of my thigh that is super sensitive. At that time, we found out that the septic tank had a possible crack in it and might be leaking up through the ground. Of course, we had already been kneeling down in the "mud". When I got home later that night, I smelled something kinda like a porta-potty and I realized that it was my knees! Needless to say I beat my companion to the shower!!!
Yesterday I was able to hang out with my old MTC comp, Elder Bodda. His companion was going on the "End of Mission" Arlington rtip. Elder Boddas needed someone to "hang out" with, so I went up to to be his comp for the day. It was super great!! We went to the Waldorf mall and then we went to the gym :).
Well that was our awesome week! I miss and love you all. I hope that you have a wonderful week!!!!
Love,
Elder Gold
