Hey Everyone!
So this week was relatively slow. We were able to meet our goal of 20 lessons a week. We actually went over that by one, so we had 21 lessons! Unfortunately we still have no investigators to teach.we do however have a couple of potential investigators that we're going to be working with. One of which is a lady that one of the members works with. We helped her move into her new house a few weeks ago, but she wasn't there so we just met her son and grandson.so were going to try and go over tonight to visit with her, with the senior couple that's in our ward.
And the second potential investigator that we have is a gentleman named Luke. So last Saturday we were invited to the baptism of one of the young boys in the ward. The baptism went great and we were able to talk to a few people and set up appointments. After all was said and done we left because we had a dinner appointment that we had to go to. So while we're at the dinner appointment, we get a text from the people who were still at the church for the baptism. The tex said, "Hey Elders! Where are you right now? A guy just walked in and wants to know more about the church. Can you come back to the church!?". Then they called us and told us the same thing. We told them we were at an appointment and weren't able to go to the church. So they got his information and sent it to us. We are going to try and get a hold of him and see what we can do there. We're pretty sure that he actually lives in the Sisters area though. So once again we have a Golden Potential and its in the Sister's area. It's kinda frustrating though because they keep complaining all the time about how hard it is to find people in their area and we have gotten like 3-4 potentials for them, while we really can't find anyone to teach and we have been here for almost five weeks now. We're working on it though :).
One way we have been working on it, is we are trying to go over to members homes and teach the lessons to them! It hard though because it seems that everyone is too busy! We have asked a ton of people and they pretty much all have said "Let me talk to my wife/husband and I'll get back to you.", and then they never get back to us. then we have to call and remind them about it and then it just seems that we are bothering them. So we'll see where that goes.
Then we also went to the temple this past week! We went earlier than normal because there is a sister from the College Park Ward, (that a lot of missionaries had become really close with), that went through the temple for the first time. We wanted to go and support her. Its funny though because Elder Tavana and I were the only ones, out of the five of us that knew this sister were in the actual session. Elder Bodda didn't show at all, and Elders Von Trap and Treasure were late so they didn't make it in time so they just sat in the celestial room. It was really cool to be there though and see this sister and see the happiness that came to her face while sitting in the celestial room. She even began to cry! I think it was a mix of joy and being over whelmed by the spirit.
Then last but not least we were able to go to the visitors' center this past Sunday to the "Why I Believe". I was soooooooo excited for this one because Brother and sister Casto were the ones speaking! For those of you who don't remember who they are, they were members of the Patuxent Ward when i was down there. They switched to the Lexington Park ward when they rearranged the ward boundaries. They were both religious leaders (i.e. pastor and priest) of their own congregations and came to know of our church through some members of the Patuxent ward when they went to speak at one of the worship services that Sister Casto was doing as a priest. Their conversion story is really cool.
So they came and spoke at the "Why I believe"! Their talks were amazing!!! I wish I could share video of them, but I didn't think to do that until it was too late. Sister Casto talked about being spiritually "hungry" throughout her life and how she became full when she found the church. Then Brother Casto spoke on how he was able to answer "So what? what does it matter?" when he was investigating the church. They were both really fantastic talks!
Well that has been our awesome week! Other then that it was trying to find people and starting to figure out school stuff for when i get home. It's coming to a close soon, but I'm so grateful for the opportunity I have had to be here :). I love you all, and have a great week!!
Love,
Love,
Elder Gold
