Hey guys!
This past week was so slow. :( Last Sunday we talked to like, ten people to see if we could go over and start teaching them the lessons. All of them were like "Oh sure! Just let me talk to my wife/husband and we'll let you know!". Well, none of them got back to us and no one answered their phone when we called. So the only lessons we had were with dinner appointments, random stop bys, and appointments set up the week prior. This Ward seems to really struggle with missionary work. The members are more than happy and willing to feed us, but when it comes to having us over JUST to have a lesson, they would rather not be bothered with it. I mean the past couple of weeks we have reached the goal of 20 lessons, but most of those come from the lessons we have on facebook. Hopefully though, this Sunday will change that. The stake president has really gotten onboard with helping us reach our goal of 20 lessons. With his help we have created a way to have members sign up to let us know that they are available sometime during the week. That way we can keep control of our schedule but still have people sign up to have us over. We will probably implement this next Sunday, so I guess we'll see what happens!
Well it's that time again! Transfers are this week! We were curious to see who was going to be staying and who was going to be leaving. I had talked with Pres. Cooke about putting Elder Summit and I in a trio with an Elder that's in the mission who is goes home this coming transfer. This Elder had been in this area previously and wants to end his mission in this ward. I thought it would be a good idea so that way he could help us to find people to teach with some of the people that he had previously taught while he was here. We get more people to teach and he ends his mission where he wants to. Pres. Cooke seemed very interested in the idea and said that he would pray about it and consider it. Well the callout came last Saturday as to who was leaving and who was staying. Elder Summit and I are staying and Elder Gardner, (the other elder who we wanted to be in a trio with us), is staying in his area as well. So unfortunately he will not be joining us in a trio :(. I am pretty excited though because this transfers we are going to be able to watch "Meet the Mormons"! I was pretty stoked because I've been wanting to watch that movie. A couple of members have wanted to take us to it but we had to tell them no because we can't go see movies. Now we get to go watch it :)
The other interesting part, is that we are losing the Sister Missionaries in our Ward. The ward was pretty bummed that the sisters are leaving. They'll get over it though :).
So as for those cottage meetings I had mentioned...they didn't happen this week :(. No one they invited could do it yesterday. So I think we're planning for next Sunday, but we'll see how that goes. This wasn't the only appointment to fall through though. Also last night we were supposed to go with the Sr. couple to an appointment with a young guy they had found while walking at the mall. They said he seemed very promising and like a very smart kid. However he was hesitant to meet with them because of his parents. So they set the appointment up for yesterday night and we got to the meeting place they told him. He didn't show. Elder Hinckley wasn't happy at all that he didn't call or anything. I should probably tell him that will happen thousands of more times while they are out here on their mission. I don't know if I mentioned this or not, but they have only been out for about 6 months. They are still kinda learning the ropes.
Well this has been our good, but slow week! Hopefully this next one will be better! Hope you all have a great one as well!
Love,
Love,
Elder Gold
