Good afternoon!
This past week was pretty good! We were able to do some service, gain two new investigators, and have a wonderful family history workshop!!
To start out, Elder Summit and I have finally gotten the less actives up on the two maps of the area that we have. We have been making it a big priority to go around and visit all of the less active members we can. We have started in Crofton, MD and are moving our way down and then over into Bowie MD. Well last week sometime we were out and dropping by the less active's homes when we came upon one of the houses we had previously tried to visit but no one was home at the time. This time how ever, the lights were on in the house! So we knocked on the door and a lady came to the door! We asked for who we thought lived there and she said she was home but not really able to come to the door. We told her who we were and she started laughing. She said "OK, I'm sorry I can't hold it any longer. I'm a member! I just don't go.". She totally got us. We were just like " Oh! Well, it's nice to meet you!".
Anyway long story short we asked her if we could come back and visit with her and her sister, (the one we actually went to visit), and she said that they were pretty busy and that the next time they would be able to meet would be in January. So as we were thinking about when we could comeback next, I noticed her yard needed to be raked. I asked if we could help out with raking her yard because there were leaves everywhere. At first she was still hesitant in having us come over and told us she normally has a guy come over and do it, but then later added that she had asked him to not come by for a while. She said if we wanted to we could come over Saturday and she would leave some rakes and bags out for us and we could work on her yard. So last Saturday we went over and raked her yard! She was super grateful because it needed to be done and she didn't have time to do it herself. We invited her to the family history workshop the ward was doing on Sunday, but she said she probably wouldn't go. IT was worth a shot though :).
That same Saturday we met with David and Barbra Baldwin again! We started out with the bullet points from Preach My Gospel ch. 10 "how to begin teaching". We didn't use all of them but we did use most of them. Especially the one about baptism and we told them that in the end we would be inviting them to be baptized and to look out for the reason why we would be. Right then and there Barbra brought up the fact that David and herself had already been baptized. I told her we would be addressing the reason why we were inviting her to be baptized even though she had already been baptized.
Then, we offered a prayer and commenced with the first lesson! They seemed to understand everything we were teaching. We asked multiple times if they had any questions. They did a couple of times and they were great questions as well. We finished the lesson and invited them to be baptized. Even though we had explained about Priesthood authority, she still was saying that she had already been baptized and didn't need another Baptism. David said he couldn't answer that right now. So, we are going to try and go back next time and put those concerns to rest! ha. In the end they were still more then willing to read the Book of Mormon and pray about if it was true scripture and also if Joseph Smith is a prophet of God. They also said they would go to church sometime as well. So over all there was a lot of success! We are also taking them to the "Why I Believe" meeting this Sunday. We're pretty excited for both of them :)
Then this past Sunday the ward and Sister Hinckley put on a family history workshop!! That was so much fun to go to! Since the missionaries have had some training as to how to do family history, we were asked to go around and help people with any problems or questions that they had. It was way awesome to be able to visit with people and help them get excited about their family history! Our goal was to help them find a person in their family history that needed their temple work to be done so that they could take that name to the temple. There was quite a number of youth there as well! They were there because they were challenged by Elder Anderson to take as many names to the temple as they could. So they were there working on that so they could get the names they needed.
That was our wonderful week! The rest of the time we were going to visit members and tracting, but with no luck. Ok that's a lie, we went to visit some people whose records had just arrived in the ward. One guy was blatantly rude and told us he wasn't interested. The other one welcomed us in and we talked for a good while. It's funny though because Brother G. and his wife are from Orem and they used to work at the Chick-Fil-A in the mall the same time I worked at Taco Bell in the mall, which are neighbors! We never met each other though. Small world!!
Well i hope you all have a wonderful week! i love you all!
Love,
Elder Gold
