Tracting With The Youth (10/13/2014)

Goooooooooooood Morning Utah!

I hope that you all were able to have a wonderful week!  I know we sure did!  This past week we were able to pick up a few potential investigators, which didn't end up going anywhere but we were excited to get them nonetheless! Then we were also able to meet with a wonderful family who is super pumped about missionary work.

So to start out, as I mentioned, we were able to pick up a few potentials this past week! Three to be exact.  This last Wednesday we were supposed to go to dinner with one of the members. When we showed up, it turns out that the husband was sent to the hospital the night before for chest pain and had gotten back that morning. So they gave each of us a gift card to California tortilla, which is kinda like a Cafe Rio.  When we got there we were ordering our food and the cashier started talking to us about our name tags. I explained who we were and what we did. Then he started asking some really great questions to see what we believe in for things like Christ, how we were created, polygamy, and other things. He also mentioned that he had seen the Book of Mormon musical and that he didn't like it at all.  He really didn't like that there was cursing and other inappropriate things.   He understood though that it wasn't a correct representation of what we believe. So we asked if he wanted to know more and he said he did!  We got his number and texted him a couple days later. It turns out he is in the sister's area and we tried seeing if it was ok for the sisters to go and teach him, but he basically told us that he was only trying to learn more and if it was that big of a deal and Elder summit and I couldn't teach him then he didn't want to know more and thanked us. So we texted him back and said that it wasn't a big deal and that we could go and teach him. We haven't received a text back yet and that was last Saturday. So we'll keep on him and see where that goes.

Also this past Wednesday, we and the sisters were able to participate in an activity with the youth. This activity was tracting splits with the missionaries!  So it was split into four groups, one for each missionary. My group and I didn't have much luck where we went. We just got a bunch of old people who "were good" because they were Catholic or Baptist. Elder Summit's group and one of the Sister's groups each found a potential person for us to teach! It was great! One sounded very promising and the other not so much.

Later we went and checked on the referrals! Unfortunately the first gentleman wasn't home. The second one was though! He was very nice and we talked with him for a minute about the Book of Mormon and the pamphlet the Sister and youth had given him. In the end he said he wasn't interested in learning more about the church so he could join. He just wanted to know a bit about it and call it good. So we gave him our number and told him that if he wanted to know more to give us a call and that we also loved to do service for others and that if he, or someone he knew needed help, then to give us a call and we would love to come help. He took the number, but told us that all of their yard stuff was hired out so they had nothing for us. We thanked him and left.

Last but not least, we were able to work with the B. Family last night!  They are super pumped and ready to do missionary work!  They explained to us that back in their old ward, (they just moved here three months ago), they used to hold "cottage meetings" in their home.  They would let their friends know that since the church is doubling its missionary size in the next couple years, we don't have much time to practice teaching the lessons. We get trained for a short time and then they bring us out and, depending on the area we are stationed, we don't teach very much. So they invite their friends over with the knowledge that they are there to help us practice and they can give feed back as to how we did when we are done. That's the gist of the Cottage Meetings. They told us that they were able to help get five baptisms for their ward by doing these meetings. So last night they told us about it, we said we would love to do it, and they said "good! We can do one this Sunday! We have like five people that we have that we believe are ready to meet with you.". Haha as you might assume, my mental jaw dropped to the floor! So this Sunday we are going to teach the Restoration to one of the five people that they want us to teach!!  I'm so excited!!!

We also are starting to see some progress in our ward!  We we got here there were a lot of things wrong with how certain things were being ran. The sisters tried to fix it and couldn't. We tried and made a little more progress, but in the middle of that we found out that President Cooke (MP) is going to come down and fix the problem because there are multiple wards in this stake that are having the same issue. So that's nice that we won't have to try and fix it ourselves.

So this has been our wonderful week!!  I'm excited to see what this next one holds and the miracles it contains! I hope you all have a wonderful week! Don't forget to do your family history!!  Love you all!

Love,
Elder Gold
